If it Looks Wrong it's Wrong

It was pointed out to me that this guy looks like he has very short legs, but my intention was that he was standing in tall grass.  I've often said that drawing is a visual medium so it is whatever it looks like.  You won't always be available to explain your intentions so you've got to do whatever is needed to make it look right.

This is better even though in a real sense it's less accurate.  The field was very leafy and had a surface to it.  A shadow could be cast onto the surface of the weeds which could visually shorten the image a great deal.  Just adding a bunch of vertical lines into the surface of the weeds and a darker shadow area along the space where the bottoms of his feet would be gives a sense of the hidden space without actually drawing his legs in.
