Last Day of MerMay

Today is the last day of MerMay, the mermaid a day challenge.  I missed a couple days making 28 out of the 31 days.  Still I'm glad I did it.  The mental stretching is good for the brain and, as I said in March, the more you do the more creative you become and you actually manage to surprise yourself.  I thoroughly enjoyed that and it resulted in the sale of one sketch and a commission for a painting which I will certainly share with you soon.

I was visiting family over the weekend for my sister's funeral.  I was able to take a few moments to sketch, but my relatives are a little touchy about nudity.  I felt safe doing these two sketches from my imagination, but I would have freaked people out if I'd opened my laptop and pulled up photos of my naked friends who model for me.  So these two are much less realistic than most of them have been.

I call it Moonlight on the Water and I really like the idea of it, but wanted to try it again with a reference photo once I got home.

I like the original one better.
That's the problem with pre-made photos, you're always stuck with whatever the model did at the time, you can't direct her to lean back and look more relaxed.

And this is the final sketch which I like a lot.  I think I'd like to make paintings of several of these mermaids and perhaps a coloring book.  This month May just be a gift that goes on giving.
I hope you enjoyed it.
